coastal Explorer on Laptop

Has anyone used a laptop and a USB GPS unit such as GlobalSat BU-235.  I am interested in using this as my primary GPS.  I understand that you can also use the USB ports to connect radar and AIS.  Anyone done this?  Was the setup satisfactory?  What are the disadvantages of doing this?

Steve

Re: coastal Explorer on Laptop
Steve: I use Coastal Exporer with a mast mounted Garmin GPS and a Comar AIS receiver (VHF antenna mast mounted) as my primary nav setup, with my 6 year old Raymarine nav/radar as backup (backed up by paper charts of course). I'm not currently connected to an autopilot but plan to do that next year. Call me in the evening Seattle time at 425.881.1181 if you wish to discuss - and there is a LOT to discuss. Cheers, Mike 425.881.1181
