Celebration
It’s hard to believe we are ending our ninth year at PMM. Many of you have been with us from the beginning, coming with us on this journey of discovery. We’ve learned a lot during these years and have seen the boundaries of the trawler lifestyle fluctuate as a living entity.
Beyond the terrific boats are the people who choose to wander over the horizon in safety and comfort. The dreams of those who cruise under power is much the same as it was a decade ago; only the parameters have changed. As I sit in my office in Annapolis, I watch a steady flow of trawler-style boats transiting the Annapolis inner harbor. Ten years ago, it was an oddity to see more than a couple trawlers amount the sailboats on Spa Creek moorings. Today, the tide has turned. On any given day or weekend, the harbor is full of cruising motorboats. Some are locals just enjoying a day on the water, while others are on a trek northward or southward, stopping for a visit to this quaint boating center of Chesapeake Bay.
If you come through the area, we invite you to stop by our offices. After all, we’re not located on the 23rd floor of some New York corporate empire- we’re just a small group of normal folks who really like what we do. And we do it on the water. It is always fun to meet readers at the boat shows and in our office. The magazine’s home port, Horn Point Marina, is finally operational after damage from last year’s Hurricane Isabel, so even transient slips are right here in full view of our office.
It really is a time for celebration as we begin our 10th year. The world is still under the restraints imposed by national and international security, but most of us have managed to stay focused on life. If the difficulties of the past have done anything though, they have made us smarter and perhaps better able to enjoy today a little more. In the context of cruising under power, I see many couples moving their cast-off timetable up a couple of years, planning that adventure cruise sooner rather than later. And that is a good thing.
Join us in celebrating this wonderful life and he many great people who are living the dream.
