Hang Tough

Listen up, folks, as we have lots to talk about. I promised we’d bring you more during this anniversary year and i’’s all going to start right here, right now.

To begin with, notice the new look of this page. I’m excited to say we’ve designed a new look for PMM, a design that will start with our next issue. To give you a taste of it, however, we created this page in the new design look.

Aimed at making the magazine easier to read while organizing information even better, we’ve incorporated all that you like with some fresh and helpful graphic elements. Our new look communicates the sophistication and energy of the trawler lifestyle you and I love. Even our new logo reflects this attention-grabbing power.

I’m certain you’ll like all we’ve done to improve and refresh PMM.

In other news, I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Ann Wixon as publisher of PMM and Cruising Coast and Islands. Ann is one sharp lady, with tons of publisher experience and definitely one of us. She’ll help drive both publications forward while expanding new avenues of presenting valuable information into the cruising community.

My wife Laurene takes over as president and CEO of the PassageMaker organization. Laurene is devoting her time to developing new programs where you can experience and enjoy the trawler lifestyle. And with special events proving exciting new ways to celebrate and inform, Laurene is working on escalating our activities in the cruising-under-power arena.

Speaking of events, look for details of our new Bahamas Pokie Run cruise in June 2003. This is the first in a series of “live action” education programs that bring trawler owners together for a common purpose–in this case it is a trip through the Bahamas from Florida. With BoatU.S., Mainship and Rhumb Line Yachts sponsoring and helping to arrange the details, the event is intended to inspire those waiting to go to cast off well prepared and in good company. We’ll be there with our new Growler as well.

As our team and family of subscribers grow, we’ve outgrown our office space in Annapolis. But we didn’t travel far, moving up to the second floor of the Horn Point Marina building we’re currently in. With an even better view of Chesapeake Bay, we can now see you coming as your trawler heads up or down the bay to Annapolis. Stop by for a visit if you come through town. We’d love to see you.

I know the world is a tough place right now, and there’s much to be wary of. The evening news talks nonstop of hostilities around the globe, a shaky economy that refuses to respond to either tender loving care or interest rate reduction, and a lot of frightening news of job insecurity and corporate upheaval.

When I look deep into any of these gloomy matters I see just how little I have to combat any of them on a grand scale, or affect lasting changes that matter. But I also see perfectly clear that we must live these days with purpose, and enjoy our freedom and liberty.

I’ve said before we’re committed to this lifestyle and see plenty more to do. So sit back and enjoy this magic carpet ride, as we share all the new changes in staff, programs and look. There’s much to be thankful for, even in today’s unsettled world, so hang tough while we encourage and support you in this wonderful lifestyle.

You’re gonna love it…
