Wi-fi For Cruisers
In our fast-paced world of technology, the internet has
become more and more addicting as well as a critical part of the way we stay in
touch and informed when we're out cruising. Waiting until you get into port just
to connect to the Internet is no longer necessary with the advances that Wi-fi has
to
offer for the cruiser. Check
out what you need to get connected, get a signal,
and roam freely on your computer!

Making It Happen: Long-Distance Cruising
As A Couple
You probably know the names Steve and Linda Dashew from the pages of PMM,
from their unique boat designs, their books, and their success as offshore adage.
They have truly lived the passagemaker's dream, and most recently aboard their 83-foot
aluminum cruiser, Wind Horse. Here they share what they found it takes to go passage making, to equip the right boat, to work together as a couple...essentially.
what it tales to make your dreams come true.

Oh, Rats! Rattus Norvegicus On
Board
There are any number of "worst nightmares" when it comes to boat ownership. When
Bob Lane found evidence that rats had been on board Quadra in her slip
in Anacortes, Washington, he was shocked. Not only had his boat been invaded, but
many of the boats in his marina suffered similar invasion and damage from rats.
His research on trapping these vermin in addition to preventing them from boarding
could prove invaluable for you, too.

Galvanic Isolators And Isolation
Transformers
Connecting to shorepower is a common practice for boaters.
Whether you are hooking
up to recharge batteries, switch on lights, or simply draw from shorepower rather
than your generator or house bank, there is more at stake than you might think when
you plug in the big yellow cord. Protecting your boat and the boats around you from
corrosion is just one advantage to having an isolation transformer on board. Learn
the details in this in depth look at the critical role that galvanic isolators can
play in your engine room.

Style Of A Yacht, Heart Of A Trawler:
The Jefferson 52 SE
Jefferson Yachts is a company that has tapped into many areas of the cruising under
power market. Their boats come in models that can satisfy the need for speed, comfort,
size, efficiency, and now one that offers it all in one model. The Jefferson 52
SE is a modern and well equipped vessel, with the capability and comfort one might
seek in a "traditional trawler". See how the company has achieved the best of both
worlds.

Nautica International
The importance of selecting, storing, and using a dinghy has often been a hot topic
in PMM. In order to select the best dinghy for your boat, you have to know
how you plan to use it. The multitude of tenders on the market may seem overwhelming,
and they may even have stereotypical roles depending on how they are marketed. One
company is different, and a visit to Nautica opens up the option of a custom dinghy.
The Nautica philosophy and its range of boats reveal that building a custom tender
may be the best solution for many boat owners. At Nautica, the design, the production,
and the buyer all comes together.

Quest V: A Vast-ly Different Boat
When PMM received a call about a unique stern thruster/propeller that a
boat owner had designed and installed on his boat, our curiosity was peaked. With
a new system called VAST installed, this one-of-a-kind Bill Garden-designed trawler
became even more unique. Through Bob Lane's boat tour of this vessel, you'll learn
about a custom designed prop that may alleviate some of the challenges of single-screw
boat handling.

To The Rescue
When readers Steven and Diane Koch were cruising the waters of Mexico, they met
a lot of good people along the way. Spotting a fellow cruiser in shallow waters,
obviously in great distress, they immediately responded to the Krogen trawler, hard
aground in the Mexican waters. Resources arrived from many directions, and their
subsequent experience is both a testament to seafaring as well as some helpful advice
if you come across other boaters in need of assistance.
