ABCs of ABYC

Skip Burdon
02:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Today’s boater is a sophisticated and informed consumer. Before purchasing a large discretionary product such as a boat or major marine accessory, boaters now do their homework. They are interested in quality, safety, durability, and customer service. As the owner of a high-value recreational product, you must expect and demand only the highest post-purchase service. The safe maintenance and repair of your boat and its accessories are paramount to having an enjoyable boating experience.

Skip Burdon, president of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) will discuss these topics in the context of the industry’s safe boating standards and technical workforce training, education, and certification as you become introduced to the ABC’s of ABYC.

Fluids Workshop

Barry Kallander
02:00 PM - 03:00 PM
A typical yacht in the fifty to sixty foot range may require a dozen or more oil types and grades for engines, marine gears, hydraulic systems, steering systems, and gear systems. EP90, 15W-40, ISO Grade 32, API Class CI-4, and many others can leave the owner/operator confused when determining the proper lubricants for their equipment. This workshop will demystify oil types, grades, and classifications using specific marine equipment examples. It will provide recommendations for determining an onboard (spare) inventory of oils for your type of cruising, as well as provide recommendations for the purchasing and care of lubricants.
