NEW AND NOTEWORTHY

Garmin's 700 series touch-screen-controlled chart plotters are aimed squarely at the trawler market. With a built-in sonar transceiver, built-in charts, built-in NMEA 2000 engine monitoring, and plug-and-play capability for Garmin radar, Garmin says its market for this device lies midway between the "entry-level boater and luxury yacht customer." A must-have for successful navigation of the Bahamas, Garmin's preloaded charts incorporate data from the Explorer Charts by Monty and Sara Lewis. Garmin also boasts that the 700 series is capable of "unprecedented extremes" in its ability to shine brightly in sunlight and dim down for night operation. GPS is built in, and the case is waterproof. Cost ranges from $1,700 to $13,999, depending on the model. Browse www.garmin.com.

ACC NEWS

Just in time for the cruising season: Atlantic Cruising Club, which publishes "boater-biased" marina and destination information for cruising grounds across the U.S., has released its new, all-color Guide to Mid-Atlantic/ICW Marinas.

The guide is chock-full of useful information about marinas, covering what's on-site, what's nearby, and what it'll cost to dock there. The guide includes ratings, reviews, and more for facilities along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, the James and Hampton Rivers, the Virginia inlets, the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers, the Outer Banks, and the North Carolina sounds.
