Whiticar Boat Works Partners With Us Again - PassageMaker
Master Tech Adolf Ellert Joins Calder & Zimmerman for Diesel Seminar at TrawlerFest-Stuart

Whiticar Boat Works, which has been in business for more than 60 years, has agreed once again to host "Everything You Need To Know About Diesel Engines"  at its Shearwater Division near the main TrawlerFest site at Stuart, Florida.

Whiticar is also lending us its top tech, Adolf Ellert, whose access to engines and parts on-site will help make this the most hands-on diesel course possible. He joins regular instructors Nigel Calder (with whom he is pictured above) and Steve Zimmerman.

Shearwater Marine sells engines, generators and parts and provides mobile dockside repair services. It’s a dealer for Cummins, Lugger, Yanmar, Universal and Westerbeke. Whiticar began as a boatbuilding shop in the 1940s and eventually evolved into the marine services business that it is today.

TrawlerFest's location at the Marriott Hutchinson Island Beach Resort and Marina practically cries out to our northern readers, urging them to incorporate the boatshow and seminar series into a larger Florida vacation. The dates are March 6-10. The diesel course is Tuesday and Wednesday, March 6-7.

Well known as an author, Calder is PassageMaker’s technical editor, and Zimmerman writes the magazine’s “Troubleshooter” column. He operates four boatyards in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. Both men are real-deal cruisers, who bring wit as well as wisdom to the seminar. Last year they worked marvelously with Ellert to bring to life what might otherwise be a dry topic.

Calder himself will lead attendees in electrical troubleshooting using multimeters and training aids that he has developed especially for the class. The program will conclude with a panel discussion and questions from the audience.

The class is limited to 36 attendees and has almost always sold out. The $495 fee includes lunch both days and a graduation party at the end of Day Two (spouses invited). Attendees will receive a Certificate of Completion, which may help get them lower boat insurances rates.

Stay tuned for an announcement that we are open for registration. Visit www.trawlerfest.com.
