Had a long conversation last night with John Dwyer, who wrote the screenplay for the movie Captain Ron. The film airs Saturday at Dinner & a Movie Night during the International Cruising Boat Expo.
I've always said that the reason cruisers appreciate Captain Ron is that Capt. Ron is real and the movie, though it be a farce, is a true depiction. Dwyer confirmed that with details of the events that inspired the script and some great insights into Captain Ron's production. I plan to share some of what I learned when I introduce the movie at the event, which is happening at the Brewer Essex Island Marina in Essex, Connecticut.
Meanwhile here's a taste of Captain Ron:
Cruising Boat Expo, an event in the tradition of PassageMaker magazine’s TrawlerFest series began its seminar series today at Brewer Essex Island Marina. The boat show part of the Expo, which will features dozens of new and used power cruisers and sailboats runs Thursday through Sunday. Saturday's Dinner & a Movie Night is just one of three social events. On Thursday evening we'll host a Rum Fest & Cocktail Party and on Friday we're having a Lobster Bake and Sea Shantie night.
See you at Essex Island.
