Instructors: Bob Sweet & Bill Boyer

Dates & Location: June 26-27, 2017 in Essex, Connecticut

Cost: $319 (includes “Boat Handling Illustrated” textbook)

Gain confidence! Learn to maneuver a powerboat in close-quarters and get on and off a dock without embarrassment.

Participants will receive a signed certificate of completion that may help achieve lower insurance rates, while qualifying them for bareboat charters. Class size is limited to 24 participants.

Each participant receives six hours of instruction. Boating author and trainer Bob Sweet teaches a three and a half our class on Monday morning, June 26. Then marine trainer and yacht broker Bill Boyer leads two-hour on-the-water sessions Monday afternoon and Tuesday, June 27. Fresh from the factory, our training boat is a tricked-out Nordic Tug 40.

Bob Sweet is a senior navigator and author of The Weekend Navigator, GPS for Mariners, Using GPS, Using GPS with Charts, and consultant to OceanGrafix.

Bill Boyer training aboard a Nordic Tug

Bill Boyer has been a Certified US Powerboat Instructor since 2010. The US Powerboat course is a 3 day course with a half day of on board instruction, followed by 2 and a half days of hands on operating their boat or a 34’ Nordic Tug. For the past 16 years Bill has been selling new and pre owned Nordic Tugs. He has also taught customers and their spouses how to operate their Nordic Tugs. Bill’s boating career started in small sailboats at a camp on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH and continues to this day on the Chesapeake Bay with sailboats and Nordic Tugs.
