Refitting a cruiser can be a minefield to the uninformed but have no fear, your favorite marine publications are here to help.
For the past year, PassageMaker, along with the editors of Power & Motoryacht and Soundings, have been breathing new life into Arawak.
After several round trips to St. Thomas, USVI, (I know, the curses of employment) the tired 1996 Grand Banks 42 Motoryacht has undergone several transplants to bring her up to speed with the latest gear, gadgets and goodies—including a new Yanmar heart.
Now, here's the fun part: Every step of the project is chronicled over on the project's www.betterpowerboat.com. Aimed at providing readers a reference point for their own refit, the project was split into three sections: Interior, exterior and hull profile.
"The immersive aspect of the site takes the consumer inside this boat, and the experience of following the refit will be a richer experience," said George Sass AIM's Marine Group vice president. "The content will reveal how systems work and how to improve and maintain them as well as how to care for their boat and make improvements."
The project culminates with Arawak traveling to the Miami International Boat Show in mid-February.
We'll show you a few tricks on how to make a former charter workhorse shine again and start the next phase of her career. Visit www.betterpowerboat.com and stay tuned to the Technical section right here at www.passagemaker.com.
