AIM Teams with NMEA, Electronics Gurus Ellison and Comyns (VIDEO)

In an attempt to better serve its readership, AIM's Marine Group will debut a new publication focused solely on electronics as well as featuring experts at this year's TrawlerFest University in Baltimore.

The parent company of PassageMaker, Active Interest Media Marine Group, has joined forces with the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) to co-sponsor a new digital magazine covering the latest in marine electronics.

Titled the 2015 Marine Electronics Source Book, the publication will combine multiple mediums to covering 18 product categories and include editorial overviews of the categories, product advertorials, embedded video tutorials, and direct, trackable hyperlinks back to the product manufacturers.

“There is nothing else like this in the marine industry today, and it will be a very valuable and complete online resource for in-market marine electronics buyers,” publisher Chris Kelly said in a statement. “ [The Source Book] has embedded instructional videos, viral and lead-gen capabilities and will be online selling for the advertisers 24/7/365 through the end of 2015.”

In addition to the product coverage and descriptions, the magazine will have a handy directory of all NMEA dealers nationwide so consumers can easily contact their nearest dealer.

Initial distribution for the magazine will be 250,000 emails sent to AIM Marine e-newsletter subscribers, along with additional distribution from NMEA dealers around the country to their existing customers. Online and print advertising throughout the year will then support it across the AIM Marine Group magazines, websites and e-newsletters. AIM is the owner of PassageMaker, Power & Motoryacht, Sail, Soundings, Trade Only, and Yachts International.

In addition to the upcoming 2015 Marine Electronics Source Book, TrawlerFest-Baltimore will feature two of the leading marine electronics experts during its preceding TrawlerFest University courses. Accompanied by Intellian’s Paul Comyns, Electronics Editor and Panbo blogger Ben Ellison will host an all-day seminar titled, “Everything You Need To Know About Marine Electronics To Make Decisions And Save Money.”


The seminar will focus on the latest and greatest in current marine technology, covering communications, navigation, safety and entertainment. While the emphasis will be on dedicated marine electronics–because they remain critical to safe and successful cruising–Ellison and Comyns will also touch on the use of tablet and smartphone apps as valuable accessories.

As a special treat, the class will break down into small groups that will rotate for demos aboard Ellison’s test boat Gizmo, a 37-foot Duffy with multiple sounders, radars, MFDs, etc. at the end of the day the class will retire to TrawlerFest’s in-house pub, The Tipsy Seagull, for an opportunity for more discussion.
