The power of Irma was so strong that Hurricane Irma pulled the water away from surrounding shore line into its core. Twitter user, @Kaydi_K share the below video yesterday of the shoreline of Long Island in the Bahamas. She tweeted: 

"I am in disbelief right now... This is Long Island, Bahamas and the ocean water is missing!!! That's as far as they see #HurricaneIrma"

Meteorologists reported that this is the sort of rare phenomena that you read about in meteorology text books but rarely see. Basically the power of the storm is so strong and the pressure is so low that it pull the surrounding water into the core of the storm. 

This phenomena repeated itself earlier today in Tampa Bay as can be seen in this tweet from @scheuster:
